The international forum "Food Security and Sustainable Development Goals of Landlocked Developing Countries" was held in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan. State institutions, private sector, representatives of international organizations, specialists and experts working in the agricultural field took part in the event. Deputy Minister of Agriculture Elchin Zeynalov represented Azerbaijan at the international event, which was attended by Prime Minister of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Minister of Agriculture Ibrokhim Abdurakhmanov, Director General of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Gu Dongyu.
The purpose of the forum is to discuss the possibilities of establishing sustainable agriculture based on modern technologies, ensuring food security, trade in agricultural products, adaptation to climate change and logistics in landlocked developing countries.
At the opening ceremony of the event, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan Abdulla Aripov, Commissioner for Agriculture of the European Union Janus Wojciechowski and President of the International Fund for Agricultural Development Alvaro Larios, Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Ibrokhim Abdurakhmonov spoke about the impact of climate change on agriculture, ensuring food security, agro- they touched on the current situation and transformation of food systems.
Speaking at the event, Azerbaijan's Deputy Minister of Agriculture Elchin Zeynalov pointed out that Azerbaijan is a country with a rapidly developing economy in the region. The deputy minister said that the development of national agro-food systems through the diversification of the economy is one of the main goals. Saying that Azerbaijan joins the initiatives arising from global challenges with great enthusiasm, the deputy minister emphasized that effective cooperation with international partners continues. Determining the transition to digital and innovation in the agricultural field, Elchin Zeynalov added that digital technologies affect the development of the economy and reshape the agricultural and food markets: "In order to effectively use limited resources, digitization is required in every sector of agriculture. This change will also lead us to climate change risk reduction and adaptation. Azerbaijan, in turn, is in the process of transforming the country's agriculture into modern and digital agriculture. We are also leveraging digital technologies to develop rural areas and integrate them into the value chain. Projects implemented in Azerbaijan, an important transit and logistics center in the Eurasian region, serve as an important trade bridge between the East-West and North-South transport corridors. These corridors can greatly benefit the development of our trade relations."
Later, panel sessions on various topics were held within the framework of the forum. During the panel sessions, views were exchanged on trade in food products, implementation of investment projects, sustainable reforms in the agro-industrial system of developing countries with no access to the sea, and other topics. An agricultural investment forum was also organized within the framework of the event.
