Cooperation issues between Azerbaijan and FAO were discussed at the meeting
Within the framework of the Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW), Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov met with Viorel Gutu, Regional Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia, Assistant Director-General.
Minister Majnun Mammadov spoke about the measures implemented in the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan and the measures taken to minimize the impact of climate change on the agricultural sector. He said that food security, including providing the country's population with high-quality, healthy food products, and the development of rural areas are among the priority areas of agrarian policy. It was noted that the Azerbaijani government attaches importance to cooperation with international organizations, including FAO, in order to achieve sustainable development goals and apply advanced practices in the agricultural sector in our country, and this cooperation is being continued.
The meeting emphasized the importance of projects implemented within the framework of joint cooperation with FAO, and discussed the prospects for cooperation.
Viorel Gutu, Regional Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) for Europe and Central Asia, Assistant Director-General, in turn, expressed his satisfaction with the establishment of high-level relations between Azerbaijan and the organization. He noted that, against the backdrop of the impact of global challenges, it is extremely important to establish sustainable agro-food systems and expand global cooperation in these areas. The FAO official emphasized that projects aimed at the sustainable development of the agricultural sector and the formation of an efficient and professional specialist base will continue to be supported.
The parties touched upon the importance of continuing cooperation within the framework of the FAO-Azerbaijan Partnership Program and discussed the possibilities of launching other new technical cooperation projects in the agricultural sector.
Finally, a broad exchange of views was held on topics of mutual interest.
