Within the framework of COP29, discussions were held on "Decarbonization, adaptation of food systems and restoration of nature on the way to 1.5°C"

Within the framework of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, discussions were held on "Decarbonization, adaptation of food systems and restoration of nature on the way to 1.5°C".

In the discussions moderated by the Minister of Climate Change and Environment of the United Arab Emirates, Dr. Amna Al Dahaq, and the Director General of the World Resources Institute, Ani Dasgupta, the Prime Minister of Denmark, Mette Frederiksen, the President of Ethiopia, Taye Atske Selassie, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance of the Republic of Fiji, Biman Prasad, FAO's Director General Gu Dongyu made a speech and emphasized that the correct use of land and water resources is one of the main factors in the fight against climate change.

The Minister of Agriculture, Majnun Mammadov, speaking at the discussions, informed the participants about the initiatives of the Azerbaijani government on the development of climate-resistant agriculture and the transformation of food systems. Stating that climate change has a negative impact on the agricultural sector, the minister talked about sustainable agriculture, water management and climate adaptation strategies implemented to eliminate the problems of water resources and soil salinization.

Informing the participants about the Baku Harmony Climate Initiative for Farmers, Minister Majnun Mammadov said that this initiative, by bringing together global partners, aims to promote investments in food systems that have a positive impact on the climate and provide stronger support, especially for women and youth.

Emphasizing the importance of global cooperation in climate-sustainable development of Azerbaijan's agricultural sector, the minister noted that our country adheres to the principles of developing sustainable agricultural practices and ensuring a climate-sustainable future in cooperation with international partners.

The participants of the event will discuss innovative models and policies for food systems transformation, climate change mitigation and agricultural productivity improvement, decarbonization and nature restoration, strategies to achieve sustainable land use transitions, sustainable land use financing, financial models for agricultural and food systems transformation and they exchanged views on other topical issues. It was noted that this event held within the framework of COP29 will lead to positive results in terms of expanding cooperation between countries in the fields of food security, sustainability and nature protection and promoting global measures against climate change.
