The 4th “Turkic States Agribusiness Forum” was held in the city of Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyz Republic. The event was organized within the framework of the 4th Meeting of Ministers of Agriculture of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS). The forum was attended by members of the governments of the member states and observer countries of the organization, representatives of state agencies and companies specializing in the agricultural sector.
Opening the meeting with an introductory speech, Deputy Prime Minister of the Kyrgyz Republic, Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture and Processing Industry Bakyt Torobaev noted that agriculture plays an important role in ensuring food security, protecting soil, water resources and biodiversity, as well as adapting to climate change. He emphasized that there is great potential for increasing trade turnover in the agricultural sector between the OTS countries.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan Majnun Mammadov informed the participants of the event about the reforms carried out in the agricultural sector in Azerbaijan and future goals. Noting that the agricultural sector in our country is exempt from all taxes except land tax, the Minister noted that Azerbaijan has strong state support mechanisms in the form of subsidies, loans and concessions for the development of agriculture. The forum participants were informed that with the implementation of large-scale transnational transport projects, Azerbaijan has become an important transit and logistics center in the Eurasian region.
Minister Majnun Mammadov emphasized that business entities of the OTS countries should further expand their export geography by taking advantage of infrastructure projects and a favorable investment climate: "Our main goal is to constantly increase the economic power of our countries and ensure food security through the principle of public-private partnership."
Deputy Minister of Agriculture of Uzbekistan Kahramon Yuldashev, Deputy Secretary General of the OTS Merey Mukazhan, Secretary General of the Union of Turkish Chambers of Commerce and Industry Adem Kula spoke at the forum and provided information on the current situation in the agricultural sector and the agrarian potential of the member countries of the organization. Speakers at the event emphasized that this event will serve to shape new directions of cooperation in the agricultural sector among member states, promote new investment opportunities, and strengthen ties between businesspeople.
The IV Turkic States Agribusiness Forum continued its work with panel sessions. Representatives of state and business entities participating in the panel sessions provided detailed information to the event participants about the economic, agrarian potential, investment opportunities, implemented reforms and existing transport infrastructure projects of the OTS countries.
The panel session dedicated to the topic of “Production and trade of agricultural products: from obstacles to business” discussed cooperation opportunities in the field of agricultural production, export and innovative approaches. The panel session on the topic of “Development of livestock breeding and protection of genetic heritage” heard reports from specialists in agricultural biotechnology, selection and protection of rare animal breeds. The forum participants also discussed the importance of water management in the Turkic world and the efficient use of water resources for agriculture.
Furthermore, bilateral meetings were held between representatives of companies specializing in the agricultural sector of the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States.
