The regional climate seminar held in Baku has ended

The regional climate seminar held at the Ministry of Agriculture on "Strengthening of climate measures in the agro-food sector of European and Central Asian countries" continued with panel discussions on various fields of agriculture.

The third day of the seminar was devoted to the topics of climate tools of the United Nations (UN) Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to increase climate resilience, increasing the employment level of women in the agricultural sector.

Arianna Gialetti, expert on climate risks of FAO, touched on the issue of increasing the level of awareness of farmers about climate change. The expert said that solving the problem of climate change requires the implementation of a complex of large-scale and long-term measures. The FAO official, citing this as the basis, believes that regular education of farmers about climate change has a positive effect on agricultural activity and, ultimately, productivity.

Marianna Bicchieri, gender specialist of FAO, pointed out that it is important to correctly assess the potential opportunities of women in the agricultural field, increase their employment level, and stimulate their participation in innovative projects. He emphasized that it is important to protect gender equality and increase the participation of women farmers and entrepreneurs in the creation of sustainable agricultural and food security systems.

Daniela Digiantonio, FAO's head of digital agriculture, touched on the importance of digitization in the agricultural sector in her speech. He called digitization in the agricultural field the most important factor in building resilience and resistance to climate change. The FAO official noted that with the introduction of new technologies, farmers get more accurate information and get early warning about natural phenomena. This ultimately allows minimizing the effects of climate change on agriculture.

Aynur Gurbanli, deputy director of the Department of Information Technologies and Electronic Management of the Ministry of Agriculture, spoke about the implementation of the Electronic Agricultural Information System (EKTIS) in Azerbaijan. He informed the participants of the event in detail about the procedure for activating the electronic cabinet in EKTIS, the sequence of data entry, the need to provide agrochemical analysis, and the benefits of insuring fields according to the established regulations to farmers.

Chairman of Azerbaijan Rural Women's Association Gulbeniz Ganbarova announced the strategic goals of the Association. The chairman of the association made a presentation on the work done to support the integration of women farmers into the business environment and accelerate their social and economic development.

Leyla Jabbarli, deputy chairman of the Agrarian Credit and Development Agency, emphasized the importance of organizing such seminars before COP29. The AKIA official noted that cooperation with international organizations is being continued in order to apply advanced practices in the agricultural field in our country. He touched on the importance of joint cooperation with FAO, especially projects related to climate change and digitization.

Speaking at the end of the event, the Deputy Head of the FAO-Azerbaijan Office, Bariz Mehdiyev, touched on the importance of multilateral discussions and international cooperation in solving global challenges such as climate change, food security and water scarcity. He emphasized that this seminar, where active discussions are held on current topics, will make an important contribution to the development of the agricultural sector.

In the panel sessions, opinions were exchanged on the topics, and the questions of the participants were answered.
