"Pomegranate Valley" agro tour within the framework of “From City to Village” project organized by Agro Procurement and Supply OJSC, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Agro Credit and Development Agency, and the United Nations Development Program was held on October 12.
Leaders of diplomatic missions accredited in our country, representatives of international organizations, relevant state and private organizations participated in the agro tour organized in the Meyniman village of Hajigabul district.
The farm of Red Valley LLC is engaged in the cultivation of pomegranate products, which are symbols of our country. The main reason for choosing this farm for the tour is the cultivation of the new varieties of Azerbaijani pomegranate such as "MinaShirin". Not only pomegranate is produced here, but also one of the main priorities of this variety is its promotion in the country and abroad.
UN Resident Representative Mr. Alessandro Fracassetti stated that "Conservation and Sustainable Use of Globally Significant Agro-Biodiversity" project organized by the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Azerbaijan jointly with the United Nations Development Program was successfully implemented. In order to support agro tourism in our country “Pomegranate Valley” agro tour was held by Agro Procurement and Supply OJSC, under the Ministry of Agriculture, Agro Credit and Development Agency and UNDP as a part of project.
Chair of the Board Management of "Agro Procurement and Supply" OJSC Leyla Mammadova provided detailed information about "From City to Village" project, which is one of the first projects in the field of agro-ecotourism in our country.
It was noted that the organization of such tours is of great importance in terms of promotion of agriculture in Azerbaijan, especially pomegranates, and it is also essential for the development of agro-tourism in the country as non-oil sector.
Rashad Shirinov, the head of Red Valley LLC, spoke about pomegranate farming. He noted that the MinaShirin type, which was acquired through a long period of research and work, was included in the Ministry of Agriculture's register in 2018 and was patented. The quality and taste of the new type "MinaShirin" are not inferior to other varieties of pomegranate. Large and juicy, with good and sour taste, this variety is about 20 centimeters in diameter.
As part of the tour, local and foreign visitors were introduced to the MinaShirin type of pomegranate and were informed about the condition of pomegranate cultivation in the country, the process of growing and harvesting pomegranates.
